Wrapped in Love

This morning I awoke to a chilly house.  The floors were cold as I quickly tiptoed to the bathroom, covered in goosebumps and found my robe and house shoes.  I love these crisp fall mornings.  You can actually enjoy the outdoors without melting.  It’s makes chili and soup the perfect dinner meal.  It calls for a mug of hot chocolate and snuggling.    It reminded me that I need to break out the winter clothing.  Long sleeves and jackets.

This morning when I wrapped myself in my favorite heavy robe, it was heavenly.  The feeling of warmth just helped me relax and allowed me to focus on the beauty of the morning.

As I was sitting on the porch, I thought that this robe reminded me of God’s love for us.  He wraps His arms around us and brings us comfort, security, peace, and love.  This feeling of peace that comes from being wrapped in God’s grace allows us to take our eyes off of the distractions of the world and focus on Him.

As I drank my hot chocolate, I wondered about this loving God of mine.  I let Him down so often.  Yet, he patiently draws me back to Him.   I realized how badly I need to focus on what He expects of me.  What He commands me to do in life.  My heart felt the need to give back.  As I opened my Bible, I came across this scripture:

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.  And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful                                                          —Colossians 3:12-15

The Bible gives us SPECIFIC directions of how to conduct ourselves each day.  Just as He wraps us in His love, we are to wrap ourselves in mercy.  Kindness.  Humility.  Gentleness.  Patience.  Wrap ourselves in love.  ALWAYS be thankful.  Forgive.  Allow peace to rule our hearts.  Make allowances for faults of others.

This is a tall order for such a sinful heart.

But with my eyes on the God…. The same God who knows my sinful heart better than I myself know it.

The God who knows the number of hairs on my head.

The God who has his name written on the palm of His hand.

I can do this!

I can live as He commands with His help.  Today, let the words of this verse seep into your heart.  Allow them to settle in your mind.  Allow these words to light the path you walk.  Wrap others in the comfort of God’s love through you.  When you do, peace will reign in your heart.  And that is a priceless gift!

Oh, and don’t forget to break out those jackets.  =D

Pray….Peace is on the way!

Source: lambdasigmaphi.com

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. —–Phillipians 4:6-7

In my youth, I was quick to question God. I would get into a bind, between a rock and a hard place, and I would pray a quick prayer for God to help me, to rescue me. I now realize, God doesn’t just want to hear from us when we have huge obstacles in our path.

He wants to hear from us about everything. He wants to be apart of every aspect of our life. He also wants to know we are thankful for His faithfulness and the blessings He has given us.

His desire is for us to pray about EVERYTHING, PRAISE Him in ALL situations, and WALK with Him daily.

Often, I wondered why He chose to answer some of my prayers, but not others. As an adult, I now realize God does answer my prayers. The answer just might not be what I was hoping for. Having faith and trust in Jesus Christ means I trust that His plans are better than mine and I have faith that He will have my best interest at heart.

Things that happen in our lives often make little sense….to the human heart. Many times, I can look at a situation in the moment… a loss of a loved one…a family in crisis….financial struggles…. loved ones chained in addictions…. and we wonder, “Why?”. We can’t possibly see that any good could come from these circumstances.

The powerful thing about a real relationship with God is this:

  •  Even though I cannot see anything but pain, sorrow, and hurt in the circumstances of my life, I know and can trust that He can make all things new. He can bring something good out of disastrous situations.
  • Although my prayers might not be answered the way I would like for them to be, the peace of God will still wrap around me to accept things that are hard and painful and give me strength for the journey.
  • God knows what you need before you ask it, or even realize it yourself. Walking with Him, leaning on Him, will release His power in your life in an unbelievable, life-altering way. He is just waiting for you to draw close to Him.

Today, commit to PRAISE Him in ALL things, even the problems you are faced with. When we choose to cling to Him, the trials of life help us to grow in our walk with Him. We become stronger, more faith-filled. His power can truly be unleashed in our lives. Bring your needs to Him and allow His peace to fill your heart and mind, trusting that He can bring good out of any situation. He loves you and His desire is for you to succeed in Him. Remember, to PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING…not just the mountains of your life that need to be moved. Make Him a part of  EVERY aspect of your life.

With that, comes unexplainable peace. Knowing, believing, and trusting that everything will be okay….because God is in control. He is able. It’s a priceless gift. And He is just waiting to give it to YOU.
